One stream through one steady-flow control volume. Pick the device, state the inlet and outlet, and read the energy flows, the term-by-term balance and both states from the same solution.

Control volume

q − ws = Δh + ΔV²/2 + gΔz (rate form × ṁ). q, Q̇ > 0 is heat into the control volume; ws, Ẇs > 0 is shaft work done by the fluid on the surroundings.

Shaft power output Ẇs (produced)

980 kW

Specific shaft work ws = 490 kJ/kg. Positive = useful power produced.

Dashed box: control volume. Stream enters at 1 and leaves at 2. Heat arrows point into the CV when q, Q̇ > 0; shaft-work arrows point out of the CV when ws, Ẇs > 0. A zero term draws no arrow.
